Government says it will provide about 5000 outboard motors and 55, 250 bales of prescribed fishing gears to fishermen within the first quarter of 2019 to eliminate the use of illegal nets.

Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Elizabeth Afoley-Quaye disclosed this at the National Farmers’ Day celebration in Tamale in the Northern Region.

She assured that the National Premix Fuel Secretariat will continue to monitor the distribution of the commodity.

Ms Afoley-Quaye also said government has implemented a two month Closed Season for industrial fishing vessels to replenish the declining marine fish stock. This she believes would improve earnings of fishers in the country.
