Ministry of Local Government to organise conference for MMDCEs

A 5-day capacity building conference for Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) is set to begin on October 1 to 6.

The conference organised by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) is aimed at providing knowledge and skills to enable the MMDCEs effectively discharge their responsibilities.

It would be held under the theme: “Re-energizing MMDCEs to deliver on Government’s Agenda”.

A statement signed by Ebenenezer Owusu-Ansah, Head of Public Relations Department of the Ministry and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said the conference is targeted at the 54 MMDCEs who were newly appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The statement said the newly appointed 54 MMDCEs will report for a two-day orientation, whilst the other 200 will join on the third day.

It said the conference would be officially opened by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo at the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS) and will be closed by the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on the final day.

The statement said the conference would focus primarily on, Effective Revenue Mobilization, Strategies and Innovative Ways of improving Revenue Generation, Management of Public Funds, Using the Public Financial Management Act 2016 (Act 921), Procurement and Contract Management and will also be briefed by sector ministers on government programmes and policies.

“Other areas would include, Free SHS, Double Track System, One District One Factory and One Village One Dam”.

The statement said the topics will be handled by experienced resource persons drawn from the Office of the President, Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS), District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), academia and the private sector.

It said the conference is also to create a deeper understanding and appreciation of teamwork and working relationships with other local stakeholders including Members of Parliament (MPs), Traditional Authorities, Faith Based Organizations (FBOs).
