Komenda sugar factory does not lack raw materials; lets's make it work - CEO

The Ghanaian company that partnered Seftech India Private Limited, the Indian Company that built the Komenda Sugar Factory, is discounting claims there are no raw materials to feed the Komenda Sugar factory.

CEO of the Company, Perry Mensah whose company, Perilines, worked on the haulage, the supply of sugarcane and also manned the boiler of the factory says, there is absolutely no excuse for the continuous shut down of the factory and wants government to do the needful to put the factory into good use.

Ahead of the President's visit to the Komenda Sugar factory on Friday, Perry Mensah says the Komenda Sugar Factory is a game changer for employment and the importation of Sugar into the country and should be given the necessary attention.

"It is inaccurate to say there are no raw materials to feed the factory. Before one can say that, the person might be conducted a survey to ascertain the amount of suagrcane in the area," he said.

Perry Mensah reveals, the amount of sugar in the area can sustain the factory for three months. He however argues that there should be a plan for more raw materials to augment what is currently in the system.

"Once we start the operations of the factory again, the confidence of the farmers will be back and they will start cultivating sugarcane in large quantities," he said.

Mr. Perry Mensah says, government has no reason whatsoever to continue keeping the factory shut because the factory will create jobs and reduce Ghana's importation of sugar.

"Beyond the provision of jobs for the people in the area, it has implications for the importation of sugar and the production of alchohol in the country. The factory needs to work, " he added.
