Samira Bawumia presses for literacy among children of school-going age in Wenchi and Techiman as she donates books to 10 schools within the municipality.

She made the kind gesture at the celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the passing of Prof. Kofi Abrefa Busia on Saturday.

The occasion, which sought to honour and celebrate International Literacy Day, saw The Samira Empowerment & Humanitarian Projects (SEHP) reaching out to children within the municipality.

The Second Lady is certain cultivating the habit of reading could immensely impact the lives of children and help them excel in their pursuit of higher academic laurels.

“In honour of Prof. Kofi Abrefa Busia and to celebrate International Literacy Day, I donated books to 10 schools in the Wenchi and Techiman Municipalities as part of the SEHP Library in a Box Project,” she said on her Instagram.

“I believe cultivating a habit of reading is important, and will provide a springboard for our young ones to excel,” she added.

The event was also attended by H.E. Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, vice president, family of the late professor and other dignitaries.

The Samira Empowerment & Humanitarian Projects (SEHP) is a not-for-profit organisation established with the purpose of empowering the underprivileged in Ghana through diverse social intervention projects to improve lives.
