2,000 passports processed daily – Director

There have been claims that passport applications dating back to January are yet to be processed There have been claims that passport applications dating back to January are yet to be processed

The Director of the Passports Office, Amanor Daku Mantey, has revealed that the office processes up to 2,000 passports in a day and dispelled claims that the office is yet to process applications that have been pending since January.

According to him, there was a backlog of applications of about 32,000 when he assumed office but that has since been reduced to less than 20,000.

He said some applications are yet to be processed but those are from May 2018.

Mr Mantey, therefore, asked individuals who claimed to have applied before May and have not received their passports, to contact him, personally.

“If there is any such case, they should come to the office and ask to see me”, he said in an interview on Accra-based Citi FM on Monday, 27 August 2018.

Mr Mantey admitted that there was a challenge with the sale of passport booklets but added that it has been resolved as “the issue has to do with supply”.

He encouraged applicants to ensure that they provide accurate information so that the office can contact them when their passports are ready.

He said they “will publish names of uncollected passports soon”, and also urged applicants to desist from using middlemen popularly known as ‘goro boys’.
