Katanga, Conti turn to Supreme Court to fight hall conversion

A Kumasi High court threw out an injunction application seeking stop the conversion of the halls A Kumasi High court threw out an injunction application seeking stop the conversion of the halls

Students and Alumni of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology have lost their fight against the conversion of the two male halls[University hall and Unity hall] after a High court in Kumasi on Friday struck out an injunction application seeking to prevent authorities from the decision.

However, Lead Counsel of Katanga Hall, Lawyer Stephen Asante Bekoe who addressed Journalists after the ruling indicated they will, by all means, seek proper interpretation of the matter at the supreme court in the coming days.

Alumni of the two male halls earlier this month filed an injunction application to halt the move by the University following weeks of protests over the conversion.

The court presided over by Justice Samuel Obeng Diewuo said the female students have already been admitted into the facility and seeking to prevent same would interrupt the activities of the school.

Management of the University had indicated the decision will help gender balance in the school.

The university authorities also argued assigning female students to the halls was meant to accommodate its increasing number of female students.
