Aspiring National Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joshua Hamidu Akamba has described today’s historic visit by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to Akyem Abuakwa as a calculated political move by president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to amass votes in the Ashanti Region in election 2020.

According to him, the president and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) are aware that they are losing grounds in their stronghold, hence the decision to pretend to broker peace between the Asantehene and the Okyehene.

Mr. Akamba who was speaking on Accra based UTV and monitored by MyNewsGh.com said the president was well aware of the uneasy calm that existed between the two traditional leaders a long time ago, but never took steps to address them until now, when election 2020 is beckoning.

In his opinion, the president is seeking to secure his second term bid and has designed the seeming truce between the two revered traditional rulers as part of his game plan to achieve that ambition of consolidating political power

“ The president knows that he had not treated Asantes well in his government and so he is losing grounds in that region. He is doing all this just amass votes. I am telling you that the visit by Otumfuo to Kyebi is political and not to achieve anything, but the president ‘s political ambitions” he said.
