Auditor-General commends government for timely release of funds

Auditor-General Daniel Domelovo, has commended the current government for the timely manner in which funds are released to the Ghana Audit Service.

According to him, unlike previously where the release of the funds delayed, a situation that negatively affected the work of auditors in Ghana, the situation has changed under the Akufo-Addo administration.

Speaking on Ghana Yensom on Accra 100.5FM hosted by Chief Jerry Forson on Wednesday, 22 August, Mr Demelovo said: “I think we should commercialise the prosecution of corruption-related cases where private lawyers can sue persons for corruption and when the case is done, those lawyers are given a percentage of the amount paid by the one sued.

“In this way, the public will be able to hold public servants and their leaders accountable to their stewardship.”

Touching on the work of auditors, Mr Domelovo told show host Forson that: “Previously, due to the delay in the release of funds for auditors whenever they go out there to carry out their work, they ask auditees to assist them financially but now by the grace of God, the situation has changed, we receive our funds timely, so, they don’t do that.”

“Sometimes, there is the perception that someone is corrupt but when we carry out the audit, we don’t find any corruption then people accuse the auditor of being financially-induced.

“Sometimes, what the public think is corruption, you go in there and see nothing corrupt about,” he said.
