Ghana winger Albert Adomah played a key role in Aston Villa's opening day victory in the English Championship on Monday evening.

The Ghana international saw 67 minutes of action as Aston Villa thrash relegated English Premier League side Hull City 3-1 at the KCOM stadium.

The home side got off to the brighter start and went ahead when Evandro hooked the opener from Jed Steer's punch after seven minutes, before their backline switched off and allowed Tommy Elphick to head home unmarked on 14 minutes.

Jarrod Bowen had a shot saved early after the restart, but Ahmed Elmohamady strode through the Tigers' backline and struck a low shot to put Villa in front for the first time with 20 minutes to play.

But in a second half that had lacked tempo, Alan Hutton danced into the area and prodded home to give Steve Bruce's side a valuable three points after a summer of discontent off the pitch.

Adomah was replaced by Andre Green with the scoreline at 1-1, and played largely on the right side of attack.

The Villans will next face Wigan Athletic at home as Steve Bruce and his charges pursue the challenge of a return to the top flight.

The Ghana international was a key member of Villa last season scoring 14 goals in the English Championship as they reach the promotion play offs.
