NEWIG graduates young women in professional driving

The Network of Women in Growth (NEWIG), a non-governmental organisation has graduated young women who participated in its programme dubbed NEWIG Young-Women-in-Professional-Driving at the NVTI Pilot Training Institute.

The third graduation ceremony which was held on July 28, 2018, was organised in partnership with Empower-The Emerging Markets Foundation Limited and Toptech Transport and Logistics.

The beneficiaries were made up of Fourteen (14) young women and a man.

Speaking at the graduation, the acting Executive Director of NEWIG, Mawulawoe Anato-Dumelo, said the dream of NEWIG is to run its own driving academy to absorb the trainees after initial training as well as operate can service managed by women.

She, therefore, called on government, investors and automobile companies to partner with them in order to speedily make the dream a reality.

The young women were taken through theoretical and practical lessons of driving, and have successfully passed their driving licensing exams.

They have also been presented with their provisional licenses.

NEWIG, as an organization seeks to empower women by providing them with skills that will enable them to attain financial independence.

Through this training, the young ladies have been equipped with the necessary skills to carry out their duties professionally as drivers.

In attendance were Dr. Esther Ofei Aboagye (Chairperson of Alliance for Reproductive Health Rights (ARHR)’s Advisory Board), Mrs. Beatrice Boakye-Yiadom (Grants Manager, AWDF), Mrs. Mawusi Nudekor Awity (Executive Director, NVTI) and Ms. Anna Appiah (General Manager, Top Tech Transport and Logistics).
