Ghana Commercial Bank gives to four institutions

Accra, Oct 6, GNA - Ghana Commercial Bank on Wednesday donated 75.2 million cedis to support programmes of four institutions in the country. The Ghana Heart Foundation, Ghana National Trust Fund and the Rural Development Fund three of the beneficiary institutions each had a support of 20 million cedis while the University of Ghana Medical Students Association was given 15.2 million cedis to buy books for the Library.

Mr Lawrence Adu-Mante, Acting Managing Director said the donation was part of the Bank's social responsibility to the community within which it operated.

He said the Bank had been contributing regularly every year to the National Trust Fund to enable the organization to fulfill its obligation to the disadvantaged especially in areas of school fees, medical bills among others.

Mr Adu-Mante said GCB recognize the relevance of the Heart Foundation to the health needs of Ghanaians and had, besides cash donations to the Heart Foundation also put up notices at all branches to remind the public to pay their donations.

The Rural Development Fund launched in November 2002 is targeted at improving lives in the rural communities, in which most of the population dwells. The 20 million cedis would support a fund raising dinner for the Fund.

Representatives of the various beneficiary organizations expressed their gratitude to the Ghana Commercial Bank for the assistance.
