Government called upon to advance education

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), has appealed to the government to adopt policies, which would improve quality education in the Northern region to bridge the North-South gap.

According to them, there should be policies in the country to ensure equity and effective education in the northern region.

Madam Gifty Apanbil, Deputy General Secretary in charge of Education and Professional Development of GNAT, made the appeal during a training workshop organised by GNAT and the Canadian Teachers Federation in Tamale.

The workshop was to sharpen the Teachers' knowledge to improve teaching and learning in the region.

She said government needed to improve the welfare of the children in the region by providing them with the needed quality education.

She added that circuit supervisors needed same support to effectively reach out to the schools to ensure efficient supervision and monitoring.

Alhaji Mohammed Haroon Cambodia, the Northern Regional Director of Education, advised the teachers to stop having sexual affair with the female students in their schools.

He said teachers should be disciplined and exercise their professionalism on the field.

He stressed that teachers were expected to be the leaders in the effort to provide quality education to the child to promote teaching and learning in the country.

Mr Atta Longiya, the Northern Regional Chairman of GNAT, appealed to the government to pay the arrears of teachers to enable them deliver their services.
