Rawlings Calls For More U.S. Role In Africa's Conflicts

Accra, - President Jerry John Rawlings today appealed to the United States to play a role in the quest for peace, security and development in Africa. He said the U.S. has the capacity to positively influence the outcome of the various conflicts in Africa in partnership with the continent's Armed Forces which have adequate and experienced personnel. The President said this when officers of the U.S. Army Special Forces Group to Ghana called on him at the Castle, Osu. The Group has been in Ghana for the past eight weeks for a training exercise with their Ghanaian counterparts at the Achiase Jungle Warfare School as part of a yearly programme.

President Rawlings said while the U.S. has advanced equipment, Africa has ''well trained and trainable personnel'' to resolve conflicts. ''Together we can achieve a lot and usher in a new world in which the U.S., Africa and other partners, working in the spirit of mutual respect, can make an impact on the numerous conflicts.
