Akufo-Addo leaves for Washington

Accra, Sept. 16, GNA - The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nana Akufo-Addo, MP, last night left Accra, to attend the International Contact Group on Liberia meeting in Washington, to be hosted by the United States government. The meeting is to review developments in Liberia and also consider the reconfiguration of the mandate of the International Contact Group on Liberia; which has proved largely instrumental in the promotion of peace in that country and the Mano River Union.

Mr Michael Ofori-Atta, Public Relation Officer of the Ministry said from Washington, the Foreign Minister, would join the Ghanaian delegation led by Ghana's Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama in New York to attend the 59th Session of the UN General Assembly, which comes on September 21, this year. The Session will be preceded by a meeting to be convened by the President of Brazil, Mr Luis Ignacio Lula da Silva. It will discuss proposals and make decisions for the mobilisation of additional resources to finance the eradication of hunger and poverty worldwide within the context of the Millennium Development Goals.

Nana Akufo-Addo will also join Alhaji Aliu Mahama on the September 23, to open the Ghana Exposition to be held in Atlanta. Nana Akufo-Addo will then travel to Paris to confer with Ghana's Ambassadors in Europe as part of the annual meetings he normally has with them. The Foreign Minister will return to Accra on October 4, this year.
