The Nobel International Business School (NIBS) has introduced an open course in Fashion Marketing and Promotion to help equip entrepreneurs in the fashion and beauty industries.

The course, according to Dr. Sheena Lovia Boateng, an Assistant Professor of Marketing at NIBS, is tailor-made to suit the specific needs of fashion and beauty entrepreneurs. The course which is open to anyone who owns a fashion and beauty business has an interest in the fashion and beauty industry and understands how the fashion and beauty business works, starts on June 28th and ends on June 30th, 2018.

NIBS which is located at East Legon, is a boutique business school that runs programs which are designed to suit the needs of busy executives who do not have adequate time to go through the regular rigorous academic schedule.

“The program is based on the premise that currently, the fashion and beauty industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the country. People do not notice because they are not in physical locations all over the place. But they are making a huge impact and when you go online, particularly on social media, the number of micro businesses selling or doing something in relation to fashion or beauty is enormous,” Dr. Boateng stated.

Speaking about the course, Dr. Boateng said there is more to marketing in the fashion and beauty industry and this will be addressed during the 3-day course.

“A lot of them start with little to no knowledge or experience in the industry or even how to go about it. They basically follow the template that they see happening around them like getting a social media page, taking some pictures, posting them, adding their phone number and waiting for people to call. But there is so much more to it.”

“When you consult academic literature and the theory of fashion and beauty marketing, you will realize that there are so many things that these entrepreneurs have to take into consideration before they even embark on such a journey; because research shows that a lot of them start and within a year or two, they fold up because they are not able to stay afloat,” she said.

The Assistant Professor of Marketing at NIBS added that the Fashion Marketing and Promotion course will concentrate on teaching fashion and beauty entrepreneurs, as well as stakeholders the strategy behind Fashion Marketing and Promotion and how to put together the various dimensions (both the offline and online aspects, as well as understanding the contemporary consumer) to be able to put together a good strategy to turn their products into sales.

Registration is currently open till June 22nd, 2018. As part of the program, there will a mentorship session where internationally acclaimed fashion designers will come into mentor participants by answering any questions they might have and sharing with them the practical aspects of everything they would learn and how it plays out in the real world,” she disclosed.

She urged fashion and beauty entrepreneurs and anyone who has interest in that industry to enroll for the program. After the three days, participants will receive a Certificate of Professional Development (CPD) in Fashion Marketing and Promotion which is an academic qualification they can use for future endeavours.
