I was disappointed Akufo-Addo forgot about Dzamefe Commission - Dan Kweku Yeboah

Head of Sports at Accra based Peace FM, Dan Kweku Yeboah says he was disappointed in President Akufo-Addo after the head of state publicly told Ghanaians he has forgotten about the 2014 World Cup Commission of Enquiry report and its accompanying Government White Paper.

President Akufo-Addo during the last ‘Meet the Press’ encounter was quizzed by controversial sports broadcaster Patrick Osei Agyemang popularly referred to as Countryman Songo if the recommendations of the 2014 World Cup Commission of Enquiry report was still relevant to his administration.

However, to the dismay of the sports enthusiasts present, the President said “to be honest I have forgotten about the 2014 White Paper but I have no doubts that my Minister of Sports is fully up to it”.

“I would advise in due time what should be the reaction of me and the government, it’s not been something that has been on my radar,” Akufo-Addo added whiles struggling to find the right words.

Reacting to the reply by the President of the Republic of Ghana, Dan Kweku Yeboah told Ghanaweb TV that he was unhappy with the response because Akufo-Addo is renowned for being an anti-corruption campaigner.

“I was in London at the time when I watched the video, I felt disappointed because I have believed in Nana Addo because all his years he has been an anti-corruption campaigner and having the opportunity to be the first gentleman he has all the powers to cleanse whichever system he wants to,” Dan Kweku Yeboah said.

The Editor of Ghana Sports newspaper added that, “for him to have said that football matters belong to football people, I just think he was trying to be nice because he was on TV and he had claimed that Nyantakyi was his friend. I was disappointed because I was in London and I said this is not the anti-corruption campaigner that I know.”

It would be recalled that former President Mahama set up a Commission of Inquiry led by Justice Dzamefe to look into the circumstances that led to Ghana’s poor showing at the 2014 World Cup and the circumstances the led to over 3 million dollars being flown to the team in Brazil to pay bonuses of the players who had threatened to boycott the tournament.

Meanwhile, it has been over three years since the Dzamefe Commission finished its work and a government White Paper was issued to that effect, but most of the recommendations in the Commission report are yet to be implemented.
