Ensure stability on the labour front – Akufo Addo to new NLC Board

President Akufo Addo has charged members of the newly inaugurated board of the National Labour Commission (NLC) to do all they can under the remit of the law that gives them their power and mandate to ensure stability on the Labour front of the Country.

Addressing the seven (7) members board after swearing them into office at a brief ceremony at the Jubilee House, President Akufo Addo said disputes between government and it’s social partners such as Organized Labour and Employers, will arise and that there would be the need for an impartial arbiter to settle such disputes.

The board of the NLC according to the President has the burden of resolving all such disputes as it is clearly laid on their shoulders.

Rules of Procedure

The President charged the new board to familiarize themselves with all the details and rules of procedure as captured in the regulations, (Labour Act (2003) Act 651 and it consequential regulations LI 1822 of 2006) and make sure that at all times, they work in conformity with them.

Members of the Board

The seven member board is chaired by Andrew Kwabena Asamoah. Ghana Employers Association is represented by Kwame Ofori-Gyau and Madam Karikari Anang. Francis Kofi Davoh and Fidelis Patrice Seddoh Esq. are on the board as representative of the Trade Unions Congress (TUC). The President’s Nominees on the board are the Chairman of the board, John Nkrabeah Effah-Dartey and James Atta Nrufi Nuamah.

In a response, the Chairman of the Board registered his and colleagues deep honour and appreciation for the opportunity to service on the Board.

He emphasized that the goal of the Commission is to ensure harmonious relationship between the Labour force, the government as well as employers. This he said will be the primary target of himself and his fellow board members as they serve the Republic.
