Gov't hasn't neglected civil servants - Former Eastern Regional CLOGSAG Chairman

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has accused some ministers of the Akufo-Addo led administration of dismissing some civil servants to make way for special assistants to occupy their positions.

According to CLOGSAG, the action by those ministers is a violation of procedures within the civil service.

They have, therefore, given government a two-week ultimatum to recall the dismissed civil servants, and further urged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to call those ministers to order.

At a press conference in Accra Monday, the Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG, Dr Isaac Paul Bampoe-Addo said those ministers have assumed administrative responsibilities and signed letters to civil servants to proceed on leave.

But in a quick response, a former Eastern Regional Chairman of the CLOGSAG, Rev. Asante Wiafe reprimanded the Executive Secretary, Dr Bampoe for the “needless press conference” and for accusing government of substituting civil servants with Special Assistants.

According to him, the idea of special assistant has been in the system long ago.

He explained that special assistants do not sign contracts or cheques but it is the heads of department who do that on behalf of government and they are still doing their work.

He also stated government has not dismissed any civil servants since the NPP took power from NDC.

Mr. Wiafe further advised Dr Bampoe to focus on his core mandate and stop what he described as “cheap propaganda”.

He accused Dr Bampoe of recruiting pensioners and neglecting deserving civil servants.

According to the former Eastern regional chairman of CLOGSAG, Rev.Asante Wiafe the ''government has a social contract with Ghanaians which he must employ people with special competencies to help him achieve his aim he stressed.''
