Let’s do government work like we would ours

Upper East Regional Minister, Rockson Ayine Bukari, has commended all hard working public sector workers for helping to develop the region.

He also urged those who are lackadaisical to see public work as sacrifice to God and country.

“There are many public sector workers who go to work late and spend time on other activities that are not related to their work schedule.

“While government works at improving the work environment, workers must also play their part by supporting in policy implementation. We have enjoyed support from the Labour Union for the past one year…let us work closely to tackle the challenges on the Labour front, ranging from productivity to discipline and integrity. We have to change the wrong mindset that government work is for no one and then begin to work like it’s our own.”

The Regional Minister disclosed this while addressing this year’s May Day Parade at Bongo in the Bongo District.

This year’s May Day celebration was under the theme; Sustainable Development Goals and Decent Work; the Role of Social Partners.

It was attended by members of the various Workers Unions in the Upper East Region.

The host District Chief Executive (DCE), Peter Ayinbisa, used the occasion to advise all unemployed graduates in the Bongo District to take advantage of the Nation Builders Corp initiative launched by President Akufo-Addo to develop their skills and earn incomes.

He also called on local and foreign investors to visit the district to explore business opportunities there to help create more jobs.

The stated that the assembly is also partnering the University for Development Studies (UDS) to explore natural resources to attract investors to the area to create jobs for the youth and generate revenue for the assembly to develop the district.



“Currently, the assembly, in partnership with the University for Development Studies and the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority, now Northern Development Authority, is prospecting for dimensional stones, clay deposits and other natural resources in the district which we can use to create jobs.”

Last year, the Ghana Tourism Authority adjudged the Bongo District as the most Peaceful and Tourism Oriented District in the Upper East Region.

Against this background, the District Chief Executive has called on public sector workers, including teachers and doctors, not to refuse postings to the area.

This year, the workers held placards, some of which read, “Support midwives to achieve SDGs,” “We need more decent jobs,” “Public workers deserve some respect” and “Public workers deserve realistic Pay oo.”

Awards were presented to some deserving workers in the Upper East Region.
