Ghanaians asked to put the past behind

Accra, August 11, GNA - Mr K B Asante, a former Ghanaian Diplomat, on Wednesday urged Ghanaians to put behind them the rot of the past and work assiduously towards building a prosperous nation for prosperity to benefit.

He said Ghana, which was once a great nation, seemed to have lost focus but indicated that all was not lost and that through a collaborative effort by the people, the country could be redeemed from the doldrums.

Mr Asante said this at the launch of a book titled " Glimpses of Ideas and Vision," a collection of an ecumenical perspectives, which was authored by the Reverend Dr David Asante Dartey.

The book is aimed at awakening contemporary Christians to their collective responsibility to God and humanity and more importantly offer individuals the opportunity to make informed decision about life. Mr Asante asked politicians not to be narrow-minded and rather work hard to the benefit of the constituencies they represent.

He urged Ghanaians to appreciate the contributions of individuals to national development and persons who had honestly served in government. " Today if a person is appointed to a high office and do not abuse the office to build an empire, everybody undermines that person when he retires".

Mr Asante decried the present deplorable state of the Ghana Airways, which he said was once the 'Great Airline of Africa', and called on the authorities to solve the problems confronting the Airways. He noted that the youth of today lack the habit of reading as a result they have become myopic and are not keeping abreast with compemporary developments.

Mr Asante, therefore, advised the youth to read books especially novels to enable them acquire knowledge required for their development.
