The essence of innovative-thinking should not be downplayed – Bawumia

Vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia reiterated the importance of creative thinking by policy makers in the quest to achieve the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as well as the African Union Agenda 2063 in Ghana.

“The essence of innovative-thinking should not be downplayed as we strive to transform these regional and global programmes from mere agreements into vigorous action.” Dr Bawumia said.

Speaking at the Policy Dialogue for Chief Directors’ seminar held at Gold Coast Kempinski Hotel in Accra on Monday, March 12, 2018, the Vice President, who was the Guest of Honour stated that the economic prosperity of the country rests with a tireless and deliberate pursuit of economic reforms by policy makers.

He maintained that the success of Government’s key flagship programmes such as the ‘One District One Factory’, ‘Planting for Food and Jobs’, ‘One Village One Dam’, and ‘Free SHS’ initiatives is not dependent only on one Ministry.

For him, Chief Directors and other Heads of Ministries, Department Agencies, who are at the helm of affairs, should have the arduous task of leading their respective institutions towards the realization of these programs.



With great concern for a vibrant economy, Mahamadu Bawumia noted that these programmes will go a long way to bolster Ghana’s industrial sector and with proper emphasis on value addition, “propel our trade activities to new heights with the ultimate objective of creating jobs and alleviating poverty.”

To achieve this, the renowned economist embraced the establishments of Public Private Partnerships as a way of pooling skills, knowledge and financing towards the implementation of Government’s programmes.

The Policy Dialogue for Chief Directors is a 5-day seminar which begun on Monday March 12 and will end on Friday March 16, 2018 at the Gold Coast City Kempinski Hotel.

Participants of the dialogue include Chief Directors, senior policymakers from key sectors of the economy, including Bank of Ghana and the private sector.



The objective of the dialogue is for Chief Directors of Ministries and other key stakeholders to dialogue on issues pertinent to the advancement of the economy of Ghana through deeper discussions on the engines of growth in Ghana could design and implement effective strategies and policies that will support the promotion of rapid inclusive economic growth of the country.

The policy is expected to enhance the understanding of the Chief Directors on the development challenges facing the country and how best to design and formulate appropriate macroeconomic policies and strategies.
