President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has waded into the internal politics of the opposition party, National Democratic Congress (NDC), as he began his State of the Nation address on Thursday.

In his acknowledgement of dignitaries that included Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, who was nearly booed by Members of the NDC, President Akufo-Addo wondered why a founding member of the party has been alienated.

The former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, who seceded from the NDC to found the National Democratic Party (NDP), seemed tickled by the unwelcomed gesture and laughed while her husband, former President Jerry John Rawlings, showed no emotions at the episode.

Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings was in her signature kaba and slit with headgear.

Meanwhile, during the singing of the national anthem, the Minority sang aloud and consistently repeated the line “and help us to resist oppressor’s rule with all our will and might forevermore”.

Some of the Minority members also had adhesives on their lips, an indication they were not going to contribute to the proceedings.

President Akufo-Addo was in Parliament a few minutes after 10:00am to fulfil the mandatory Article 67 of the constitution.

He was ushered into the chamber after inspecting a guard of honour.
