Residents of Galwei stop Chief from entering Palace

Residents of Galwei in the Gushegu district have been under heavy guard after security forces were deployed to stabilize tension in the area.

The incident comes up after the residents warned a Chief from stepping foot into the palace calling for his demotion.

According to Saule Alidu, the assemblyman of Nayilifong electoral area has told the press he had seen the security forces moving toward the chaotic area.

He said, “they said the Regent gave someone chieftaincy and the people said that person shouldn’t come home. Before that, the people said they don’t want that man but the Regent said he will give to him and let the security bring him home,” saying that was the cause of the unrest in the community.

Some residents of the area have since then been moving to nearby communities to seek refuge from close relatives.

Mr. Mahamudu Sigli, a former DCE of the Gushegu District, is said to be the Chief who has been asked not to step into the palace.

Communications to the town has been very difficult due to poor road networks as well as poor communication networks.

Residents gather at certain points to make or receive calls from outside the community.

The District Chief Executive has stated that he is still waiting to receive information from his service commander.

The Andani family has accused the government of trying to repeat the incident that occurred in the area in 2002 which resulted in the death of the the King of Dagbon the traditional kingdom of the Dagomba people in the northern region, after a radio station attacked in Tamale as well as three rooms in the Kpatinga palace.
