Party politics killing sanity in Kumasi Metropolis – KMA

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has over the years struggled to clean the once the Garden City of Africa to restore it back to its former glory but has consistently failed in this respect.

However, hopes began to refill the hearts of many when the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II gave his blessing to the decongestion exercise and directed his representatives to join the assembly to decongest the city in the wake of the final funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II.

It seems things have not really changed as people of the city hoped for, but the KMA claims the exercise has been successful. People have also questioned the sustainability of the exercise if indeed the KMA’s claims it is successful is anything to go by.

Presiding Officer of KMA Mr. Abraham Boadi popularly known as ‘Opoman’ in an interview with Hello Fm disclosed that the assembly has done the best that it can but the issue of ‘party politics’ is seriously affecting the work of the assembly.

When asked as to whether KMA will have the capacity to carry on the exercise till city authorities succeed in ridding it of filth, Opoman said, “we can sustain it, but I will say we are left with the work of politics”.

“I even wonder how it happens, I have said this on some occasions and I had problems with some Members of Parliament”. He claimed

According to him, some parliamentarians have personally called and cautioned him about the activities of KMA in trying to bring sanity into the Metropolis indicating that it will not favor the NPP government in next election.

“Eii Opoman, your activities will let our people lose the next election” He quoted some MPs as a warning.

“Do we have to cook on the streets; do we have to roast food and other things on our roads? Did you see such things when you travel abroad? He retorted at the said MPs

According to Opoman, if such is the behavior of the MPs, then there is no need for the Assembly to neither have a Mayor nor elected Assembly members. “Then let’s leave Kumasi as it is” He fired at his MPs.
