Speaker of parliament professor Mike Ocquaye is set to act as president on Saturday 27th January 2018 as President Nana Addo leaves for Africa Union Summit in Ethiopia .

Parliament is scheduled to convene for this exercise on Saturday 27th January 2018 morning.

The Speaker, had the privilege of serving as president last week Sunday to Tuesday when President Nana Addo and his vice Dr Mahamudu Bawumia were out of the Jurisdiction.

Mr Akufo Addo left for the inaugural ceremony of new Liberian President George Oppong Weah in Monrovia while his vice Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was on Medical leave in the UK .

However, former Energy Minister Mr Kwabena Donkor has argued that, the law that allows the speaker to be sworn in in the absence of the president and his vice should be reconsidered.

“I sincerely think that there should be a constitutional amendment so that wherever the president is, he still remains the president of the republic of Ghana.

“If he is on leave that is a very different issue or if he is incapacitated. But as long as he is representing the country on official business he does not cease to be the president of Ghana. Are we now saying we have two presidents? That is the implication,” he said
