The pair have rarely been seen engaging each other in public, with reports suggesting they are not on good terms. Rawlings and Mahama reunite at George Oppong Weah’s swearing-in ceremony

Earlier this month talks of the two-ex-presidents being at loggerheads resurfaced after they appeared to have exchanged a cold handshake during the recent thanksgiving service to mark the Silver Jubilee of Ghana’s Fourth Republic.

In a video that went viral, Rawlings was captured rushing his handshake and bypassing Mahama without smiling or uttering a word to him. The said episode sparked talks of a rift between the two, however, their recent gesture shows their relationship is intact.

Both Rawlings and Mahama were in Liberia on Monday to witness Mr. Weah’s swearing-in as president.

The pair were captured smiling a chatting heartily as the ceremony was ongoing – a clear departure from atmosphere during their last meeting. Indeed, Mahama has previously credited Rawlings for helping him start his political career.

According to him, the NDC founder “gave me my opportunities in life when I came in as a young member of parliament”. And it appears everything is now back to normal for the two NDC kingpins.
