The Member of Parliament for the North Tongu in the Volta, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa condemned the battle between the authorities at the University of Ghana and the Health Ministry.

Mr. Ablakwa believes if the facility is not put into use, it will affect payment of the loan the government secured for the structure.

Mr. Ablakwa was sharing his thoughts on Joy FM’s News File programme on Saturday, 20th, January, 2018.

He said that, “This is a $217 million loan facility and we need to pay back because there is a grace period so as we are here marking time, interest is accruing and life is at stake, charging the government to revert to the earlier arrangement.”

In 2012, the loan for the construction of the facility was secured. In 2015, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government signed a Memorandum of Understanding with UG authorities, stating the ownership of the Centre, three years after completion of phase one.

However, the Medical Centre has been locked since it was opened in January 2016 due to the struggle over the ownership.
