Government denies role in Deputy BoG Governor's resignation

Government has tasked those who claim it forced the 2nd Deputy Governor of Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Johnson Asiama out of the office to seek further details from the appropriate quarters denying any underhand dealings in the matter.

“Find out from the Bank of Ghana what circumstances have occasioned his resignation” a Deputy Minister of Information, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah fumed.

“If the man has quit his job, if he seeks to explain his reasons, there must be some facts to back it, but if you say he was relegated to the background, impediments were put in his way and it appears to be politically motivated and the BoG is not here to speak for itself, we are left in a fix”, he stated.

Elements in the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) including the former Deputy Minister of Transport, Joyce Bawa Mogtari suspects Dr. Johnson Asiama was forced out from office.

According to her, the resignation of the 2nd Deputy Governor of Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Johnson Asiama is tantamount to constructive dismissal of a man whose record is otherwise untarnished

“The same way that your predecessor left, recall your successor will be planning your demise and exit as well”, the spokesperson for former President John Mahama revealed.

Speaking on Joy FM’s news analysis programme Newsfile on Saturday,

Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah diffused allegations churned out by leading members of the opposition NDC.

The Deputy Minister of Information pointed out that BoG is a semi-autonomous institution and is one of the institutions with the richest administrative structures which cannot be influenced by the state.

Earlier, one of the lawyers, Dr. Johnson Asiama, Victor Adawudu, alleged some persons at the BoG made their client’s stay in office difficult and it was, therefore, reasonable for him to resign in the interest of his family and country.
