The Ghana Chapter of the World Amateur Bodybuilding Association (WABBA), which seeks to develop and promote healthy living, has been launched at the Safari Art Gallery in Accra.

The WABBA Ghana Chapter, the third in Africa after Mauritius and Cameroon is affiliated to its international body in the United Kingdom.

The President of WABBA Ghana, Victor Baiden, at the launching ceremony said that, he sought to develop the sport and promote talents in the country.

According to him, a lot of talents abound in the country and it is his desire to organise competitions for the athletes to be prepared adequately to represent Ghana at international competitions.

Mr. Baiden said “WABBA Ghana is officially registered and we’re here in Ghana to develop the sport, fitness and wellness. In Ghana today, there are a lot going on in bodybuilding but we have researched and found out that, there’s more to be done when it comes to the development of the sport especially in the regions and our local communities.

“We want to evoke national consciousness across the regions and give an opportunity to everyone conscious about health, good living, fitness, bodybuilding and also to help develop and promote talent considering the enormous potentials Ghana can boast of.

“We really want to promote this sport here, to make sure athletes get a fair chance to compete in both international and local championships."

The President of WABBA Ghana, also highlighted the need to make Ghana the hub of staging international competitions to make the discipline popular and the economic benefits Ghana will derive.

He added that, WABBA Ghana will be partnering with the National Sports Authority and the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the media to rebrand and position Ghana as the best in Africa and the World.
