Hajia Alima Mahama, the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development has refurbished the Female Infirmary Ward of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.

The gesture, which includes the painting of the whole female Wards, fixing of new toilet and washroom facilities and the provision of ceiling fans, among others, was on her own initiative.

The unveiling of the renovation coincided with her 60th Birthday, which she celebrated with inmates of the ward to show appreciation to God for her life.

According to the Minister, her heart was touched by a documentary shown on Joy News Television, in relation to the dilapidated ward and so she decided to give back to society, as part of her birthday celebration by renovating the place.

“I watched the news on TV and saw how bad it looked. I was touched and decided to do something for them.”

The Local Government Minister promised not to turn her back on the facility and would do everything to ensure the place remains in a good state.

Madam Beatrice Yeboah, the Deputy Director of Nursing Service at the Hospital, on behalf of the management and inmates, thanked her for the gesture.

She assured that the facility would be maintained and called on other benevolent individuals and organizations to emulate the Minister’s gesture.
