NPP does not have all the men with wisdom – MP

The Member of Parliament for Sekondi Constituency in the Western Region, Andrew Kofi Egyapa Mercer, has admitted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government cannot boast of having all the men with wisdom to run the country.

He is, therefore, calling on people to bring their ideas on board instead of laying back and criticizing the government. The New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP was commenting on calls by the Trades Union Congress (TUC) on government to ensure that the 2018 budget focuses on job creation.

“The greatest challenge now is how to create decent jobs for the millions who are desperately seeking jobs. We expect the 2018 budget statement to address this challenge in a more practical manner beyond the rhetoric,” the TUC said.

Contributing to discussions on TV3’s New Day hosted by Bright Nana Amfoh on Wednesday, Mr. Egyapa Mercer conceded, “the NPP cannot have all the men with wisdom. We cannot have all the wisdom alone so people can also bring their wisdom on board”.

He said “we have the men but not all the men with wisdom, so if you have issues that will bring development, bring it on board and not mere propaganda”. The MP said the government has launched some policies that are going to create employment to the youth when rolled out.

“Government must fashion out policies o ensure that jobs are created and one district one factory is for industrialization which when role out across the country, will ensure that jobs are created.

Planting for food programme and many others have been launched”. However, a member of the communications team of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, who was also on the show said, “many were expectant that this government will deal with the unemployment but clearly, these people have been disappointed by the incompetent management of the economy”. He said “the so-called stability that [government is] talking about, we are not seeing it.

If the government has missed its target of revenue mobilization for the first quarter, second quarter and third quarter, then the stability is not there”.

According to Mr. Gyamfi, the aid “the government is clueless about how it can create jobs for the people because unemployment has been on the ascendancy in the ten months of NPP administration”.
