The deputy minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr Sagre Bambangi, has stated that not all villages would have dams, contrary to a campaign promise made during the 2016 elections.

According to information obtained from www.mynewsgh.com, he added that it is literally impossible for all villages in the Northern region to have dams. One of the key campaign promises of then candidate Akufo-Addo, was to ensure that a dam is constructed in every village in the northern region.

This was intended to encourage farming in the dry season. The policy was expected to commence as soon as the dry season began, as officials have stated that the project is impossible in the rainy seasons. Dr Sagre Bambangi revealed that the government rather intends to ensure that water is accessible to farmers in the various communities.

This, he added, would be activated if residents in the communities are desirous of engaging in dry season farming.

“Not all villages will have dams. We said one village, one dam because it was a campaign message. It is commonsensical to say that all villages will have dams. There are already some villages with dams so we will desilt them and those that cannot have access to water we will find ways of getting water to them”, he said.

The government, has meanwhile expressed its intention to build 10 units of 300KW Biopower and 80 hectres of centre pivot irrigation dams in 10 selected villages within the Kpandai District.

It also intends to construct a 300KW dairy farm biogas power plant, an irrigation dam and fertilizer production units in selected villages in the three Northern regions.

The programme is in partnership with the Renewable Energy and Environmental Conservation (REEC) Biopower, a subsidiary of Hi-Limit Group.
