First Lady arrives from Benin

Accra, June 10, GNA- The First Lady, Mrs Theresa Kufuor returned to Accra this evening after leading a delegation to Cotonou, Benin, to assess the HIV/AIDS situation in that country.

The visit of the first lady, who is also the vice president of Organisation of African First Ladies Against AIDS was also to enable her honour her scheduled programme of visits to First Ladies in the Sub-region.

In an interview with pressmen at the Kotoka International Airport, Prof. Sakyi Awuku Amua, Director General of the Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) who was also on the trip, said the two first ladies renewed their commitment to the fight against the HIV/AIDS pandemic within the sub region.

He said this was after the two ladies had briefed each other on the disease in their countries.

Prof Amua said the essence of the involvement of first ladies in the fight against the disease is to give high-level political support to the campaign.

Mrs Kufuor has so far visited Burkina Faso and Nigeria where she held discussions with Mrs Chantal Campaore and Mrs Stella Obasanjo.
