Accra, May 15, GNA - The Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama on Saturday arrived in Accra after leading a government delegation on a three-day official visit to the State of Qatar. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Akwasi Osei Adjei, the Deputy Minister of Trade Industry and the Presidential Special initiatives, Hajia Alima Mahama, the Chief Executive of the Ghana Investment Promotion Council, Mr Kwesi Abeasi and the Chairman of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce Mr Solomon Abam Quartey accompanied him the Vice President.
Briefing journalists on arrival at the Kotoka International Airport, Mr Osei Adjei Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs said the visit, which was at the invitation of His Royal Highness Sheikh Jassin Bin Hammad Al-Thani, was successful. He said a memorandum of understanding has been signed between Ghana and Qatar to established a joint permanent commission. Mr Adjei said the Vice President met with the Emir of Qatar, His Royal Highness Sheikh Jassin Bin Hammad Al-Thani the Crown Prince of the State of Qatar and discussed a wide range of issues in areas such as energy, culture, trade and sports where the two countries would cooperate.
The Deputy Foreign Minister said Qatar agreed to send a delegation to explore investment opportunities in those areas. Mr Osei Adjei expressed his appreciation for the level of knowledge that their Qatar government had concerning the economic situation in Ghana and said Qatar expressed the desire to do business in Ghana. The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry and Presidential Special initiative Hajia Alima Mahama said Mr Abeasi held separate meetings with his counterpart in Qatar during which they highlighted the opportunity that existed in their various sectors and how both countries could explore investment opportunities. The Vice President also visited the Ghanaian community and the Islamic Education Minister in Qatar. At the Kotoka International Airport to meet the Vice President, were Ministers of State and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
