Special Prosecutor position: PC Appiah Ofori recommends Amidu to Akufo-Addo

The former Member of Parliament for Asikuma Odoben Brokwa and anti graft campaigner has expressed optimism that the former Attorney General under late President Mills’ administration, Martin Amidu will be perfect person to be the Independent Special Prosecutor (ISP).

Speaking to Kumasi based Abusua FM the former lawmaker stated that he has written to the president to consider appointing the anti-corruption campaigner for the yet to be established office.

“Martin is the one who can handle the job for the Special Prosecutor. I have written to the President telling him why Mr. Amidu should be chosen”, he revealed.

He cited his personal legal actions against people perceived to have stolen from the state with his personal resources and his professional competence as some of the reasons why Mr. Amidu should be the one.

P.C Appiah Ofori also commended the President for his fight against corruption so far indicating that he appears to be on track.

As part of his election 2016 campaign promises, President Akufo-Addo stated his administration will set up an office of an independent Special Prosecutor to deal with corruption cases in the country.

The New Patriotic Party in the election manifesto said, the office will “be independent of the Executive, to investigate and prosecute certain categories of cases and allegations of corruption and other criminal wrongdoing, including those involving alleged violations of the Public Procurement Act and cases implicating political officeholders and politicians.”

Following his assumption of office, he has reiterated his commitment to set up the office and nominate someone to occupy it.
