Damba wants Kingson to coach Black Stars B

Former Ghana goalkeeper Abukari Damba has suggested to the Ghana Football Association to ensure that goalkeepers’ trainer of the Black Stars, Richard Kingson, gets oversight responsibility over the Local Black Stars in addition to his current role.

According to Damba, Richard Kingson’s experience will be of greater benefit to the local goalkeepers than the likes of Adam Kwarasey, Fatua Dauda and Razak Briamah who all ply their trades outside of Ghana.

Speaking on the Football Legends Night Show on GH One, Damba said “Richard Kingson is a very experienced goalkeeper and most of the goalkeepers in the local Black Stars look up to him so if he is given oversight responsibility over the team he would have a great positive impact on these boys. I believe that if Kwesi Appiah as head coach of the Black Stars has been given oversight responsibility over the Local Black Stars then same must apply to Kingson. That is where he can actually teach and the keepers can actually praticalize what he is teaching them."
According to Damba since most of the local Black Stars goalkeepers are part of the main Black Stars team, having different goalkeepers’ trainer for the two teams would mean different styles from different coaches and that could be confusing.”

Speaking generally about the level of goalkeeping in the Ghana League, Damba said there have been a lot of improvements in the technical aspect of goalkeepers.

Asked who the best goalkeeper in the Ghana League was, Damba said he could not pick one but Kotoko’s Felix Annan has some impressive reflexes and thus deserved his place in the Black Stars squad.
