NEDCo to supply 125,000 prepaid meters in the northern sector

The Managing Director of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company(NEDCo), Frank Akligo has disclosed that by the end of the year, the company would have distributed 125,000 prepaid meters to customers in the Northern sector of the country.

Speaking to members of the Public Accounts Committee(PAC) in Parliament, Mr Akligo, explained that by the end of this month, they will be providing 25,000 prepaid meters to customers, but by close of the year, they would increase the numbers to 125,000 to take care of customers in the North.

The Network has grown extensively over the years mainly as a result of the various Electrification programs particularly the Self-Help Electrification Programs (SHEP) implemented by the Government of Ghana with support from World Bank and other international donor agencies.

NEDCo’s operation covers two-thirds of the landmass of Ghana extending into Ashanti, Volta and Western Regions.

The load now is about 120 MW with a huge customer population of about 420,000.
