Jordan Ayew is not goal poacher – Tony Yeboah

Former Black Stars striker Anthony Yeboah has outlined the strength of Jordan Ayew following his failure to find the back of the net for Swansea City last season.

Ayew, 25, joined the Welsh outfit in a three-and-a-half year contract from Aston Villa in the winter transfer window but he was largely deployed on the wings by coach Paul Clement, which culminated in his lack of goals in the nine games he played.

The young striker was faced with barrage of criticisms for his profligacy, however, Yeboah has leapt to the defense of his compatriot, claiming that former Olympique Marseille forward’s strength lies in work ethic rather than his goal scoring exploits.

“These days in football, you don’t need to score to be useful to a team. Jordan won’t give you 15 or 20 goals a season because he is not that kind of player,” Yeboah claims on KweséESPN.

“He is not that kind of player because he works hard for the team, chases balls, he tackles which means he does not stay in the box a lot.”

“What he has is the strength and skill set to create chances for the team. He is a good team player and his side will benefit from using his strength in that regard. It would be nice if he scores more goals but there is a lot of more to his game than that.”
