The thirty-one (31) year old miner, Kwame Agyemang who was shot dead by the anti galamsey taskforce, Operation Vanguard was into galamsey contrary to earlier information that he was dragged out of his home and gunned down.

“He was doing illegal mining when he was shot by the military”, Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners (GNASSM), Ben Annan confirmed.

“When I went to the Wawase community in Obuasi yesterday, luckily for us we met the father, mother and the brother of the deceased who spoke to us”, he revealed.

“The senior brother who gave his name as Richard Asamoah confirmed that his junior brother was into galamsey and he went into mining site before he was shot”, the PRO added.

According to him, the family had earlier explained that the deceased was shot at home and not at a mining site when news of his death broke out.

“I got the impression that he was either running from where they were mining before he was hit by the bullet”,Mr. Ben Annan recounted on Kumasi-based Ultimate FM’s morning show.

According to him, GNASSM investigations have revealed that the illegal miners tried to shoot at the combined team of police and military personnel and they also returned fire, killing one.
