President Nana Akufo-Addo has said that government is implementing measures to boost cocoa production to surpass the one-million-metric-tonne achievement of ex-president John Agyekum Kufuor.

The president who visited Bibiani Anhwiaso in the Western Region as part of his 6-day tour of the area and others, said on Monday, August 7 that government is rolling out several programmes to revive the cocoa sector in Ghana.

“One million metric tonnes was what former President Kufuor promised and delivered but when he left, it has gone done. We are going to do one million tonnes of cocoa and move to 1.5 million tonnes in the course of my mandate,” he assured.

The president has said in the past that cocoa production had reduced drastically due to inefficient supply of fertilisers, chemicals, logistics, as well as the nonpayment of bonuses and incentives to farmers.

These problems, he said will be addressed to help farmers meet the new target so Ghana can return to its glory days.
