I’m happy majority sympathized with us on dawn raids – Minority Chief Whip

The Minority Chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak says the urgent meeting between the Speaker of Parliament and the National Security Minister, must address the recent raids on Members of Parliament.

The minority yesterday sought refuge in the Speaker, and raised alarm on the pockets of dawn raids on the homes of some NDC MPs in connection with the AMERI power deal.

This month alone, three serving MPs who were Ministers in the erstwhile Mahama administration, have had their homes raided ostensibly in search of documents related to the said contract and various state affairs.

Speaker, Mike Ocquaye yesterday summoned the security chiefs over the matter.

Minority Chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM contends that the raids are unwarranted and an affront to the dignity of parliament.

“…Knowing very well that if you write through the Speaker, who ever Member that you need appropriate time will be allotted for the person to be able to attend to you. But if you just run into their hones with guns, I mean some of them have younger children, what impression are you creating? I don’t think that is right and I’m happy that colleagues on the majority did agree with us and then the Speaker also agreed with us and they are happy that he’s going to summon the IGP and those relevant persons.

“When this came to my notice, I immediately called the National Security Minister, and he also did agree that he will be happy to appear before for the leadership so that we’ll have some discussion and some understanding as to if is necessary for such a thing to be done, how it should be done.”
