Aviation Minister inaugurates Airshow Organizing Committee

The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the first ever Aerospace and Aviation Exhibition for Africa has been inaugurated by the Minister of Aviation, Cecilia Dapaah.

Giving the welcome address, Madam Christina Edmond, Acting Chief Director at the Ministry of Aviation said the Airshow is being organized under the auspices of the ministry. She indicated that the LOC was being put together to see to the organization of a successful event, adding that the inauguration was to officially clothe them with formal authority to ensure a successful event.

In her address, the Minister, Cecilia Dapaah expressed her pleasure to be inaugurating the committee, saying that the Ministry is proud to be associated with this historic event being hosted in Ghana. “One of the key policy objectives of the Ministry is to establish Ghana as the Aviation Hub of West Africa. In this regard, it is important for the industry to organize such events in order to showcase the different opportunities available in the aviation industry in Ghana and on the African continent”.

She added that the aviation industry in Ghana has seen a boost in recent times, and this can be attributed to liberalized aviation policies, stable political climate, and the conducive business environment, as well as the dynamism within the Ministry. She indicated the need for the country to be abreast with technology to meet the dynamic demands in the aviation sector globally.

The Chairperson of the Local Organizing Committee, Mrs Joyce Bannerman-Wood, indicated the committee’s preparedness to take on the task and pledged their support and best output to ensure a successful event and to make our nation proud.

In her closing remarks, the Minister said the LOC is a capable team with experience and knowledge, and implored them to be pragmatic and come up with innovative ideas to ensure that the event is not only successful but an event to be remembered in the annals of the aviation industry in Ghana and Africa.

She urged corporate bodies and individuals to come on board to sponsor the event to showcase the potentials of the Ghanaian aviation industry, in order to create more jobs and bring in more investment.

The Local Organizing Committee, which consists of representatives from the Ministry of Aviation, Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), the Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Ghana Investments Promotion Council (GIPC), the Immigration, Airforce, Police, Customs, National Security, State Protocol, and Air Traffic Control is chaired by Mrs Joyce Bannerman-Wood.

The African Airshow is the first ever Aerospace and Aviation Exhibition for Africa, bringing together civil aviation, private, and military. The event is being organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Aviation by 4M Events, Dubai, specialized in aviation expos, and Origin8 Limited, Ghana’s only true Integrated Marketing Communications Company. Origin8 is coordinating the sponsorship and media for the event. Media partners currently on board are the Corporate Guardian, Class Media Group, Ghanaweb and Ghana News Online.

The expo will be held at the Kotoka International Airport, from 24th to 26th, October 2017.
