The Northern Power Distribution Company (NEDCO) has published names of 24 customers who have been stealing power in the Dohanayili community in the Northern regional capital of Tamale.

The 24, including some respected indigenes of the community, have together consumed power to the tune of GHS 75,098.19 resulting in revenue loss to the power distribution company. NEDCo says it is taking this drastic measure in dealing with power theft.

It is also envisaged to deter consumers who attack staff of the company who undertake disconnection exercise. At a press conference in Tamale, the Communications Director of the company Maxwell Kotoka, said the company has henceforth resolved to name and shame defaulters especially those who steal power.

“In recent past, NEDCO staff have suffered a myriad of worrying cases of assault, threats of life, intimidation, physical hindrance, and harassment in the discharge of their legitimate duties as responsible civil servants. Sadly, a significant number of our customers abhor and can simply not tolerate these actions”.

“Management has decided that going forward, NEDCO will add naming an shaming to the tools available to her to fight illegal connections. Under this circumstance, Dohanayili has offered itself as a starting point”, Maxwel Kotoka stated.

“We want to use this to sound a very deafening caution and advice to all communities that have displayed such impunity against us in the past as well as those who may intend to so going into the future…

“Perhaps, the most painful of all these is that before we are humiliated, the communities are quick to remind us of how we were stopped or disciplined in other communities, adding that they would even deal with us more”.

The assembly member for Dohanayili who was at the press conference, Wahab Fuseini rendered an unqualified apology to staff and management of NEDCO promising a never again incident in his electoral area.
