IMANI’s call for fresh investigation into contaminated fuel saga needless - AFAG

The Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) has described the move by IMANI Ghana to initiate a fresh investigation into the sale of 5 million liters of contaminated fuel at the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST) as unnecessary.

IMANI Ghana, in a statement, described the report by the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) to clear the Chief Executive Officer of BOST, Alfred Obeng Boateng, of wrongdoing as delinquent and juvenile.

According to IMANI, the BNI report shows that the state institution has been coerced by politicians into presenting such a report calling on President Akufo-Addo to open up new investigation to unravel the truth.

But speaking on the Gold Power Drive with Samuel Eshun, a member of AFAG, David Opoku said AFAG is surprised and disappointed in IMANI’s position.

“I'm surprised with IMANI asking for fresh investigations when an investigation has been done. I think we should rather be commending the CEO of BOST for selling contaminated fuel which would have gone waste and the state losing some money should he not sell it out.”

“We at AFAG welcome the decision by BNI and the Energy Minister to clear the CEO and we hope going forward BOST will review its internal control mechanism to prevent an occurrence of future contaminated fuel,” he noted.

The BOST has come under attacks for selling 5 million liters of contaminated fuel to two companies Movenpiina and Zup Oil, which was not licensed by the NPA to operate at a discount price that could result in Ghana losing about GHc 7 million in revenue.

The Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko, then set up a committee to investigate the matter but the BNI came out with a report instead.

The Energy Minister on Tuesday according to the report by the BNI cleared the CEO of BOST, Alfred Obeng Boateng, of any misconduct.
