Central Regional Boss of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Albert Ankomah, has implored Ghanaians especially people in the region to disregard reports circulating on social media that there is plastic rice on the market.

According to him, plastic rice cannot be cooked and consumed thereby labeling the rumor as completely false.

Addressing a press briefing to address the issue in Cape Coast over the weekend, Mr Ankomah pointed out that investigations conducted by his outfit to ascertain the truth of the reports using their nationwide market surveillance programme proved all rice on the market are authentic.

“We subjected all suspected samples to laboratory investigations and the results from the analysis indicated that all the samples were in fact naturally planted and harvested rice and not plastic” he emphasised.

He explained that people in the region were gripped with fear and panic for weeks upon the viral social media report with complaints coming from consumers that they can’t go to the market to buy rice due to the information.

Mr. Ankomah charged the public to continue to enjoy rice as they have been doing saying “there’s no cause for alarm’.

We are appealing to everybody to ignore the fake information and asking everybody on authority to trust us as we continue to protect the kind of food we import to this country.

He however charged the general public to report any suspicion on any product they buy in order to help safeguard the health of the citizenry.
