Mim (B/A) April 8, GNA- Captain Nkrabea Effah-Dartey, Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development has said the government is committed to ensuring free and fair general elections in December. " However, the government would deal with anyone who would foment trouble", he added.
Capt. Effah-Dartey was inaugurating a 27-member Urban Council for at Mim in Asunafo District of Brong-Ahafo.
The Deputy Minister urged the council to accelerate its revenue mobilization for the development of the town, adding that the Council would be entitled to 50 percent of internal-generated revenue as of right. Capt. Effah-Dartey called on the Mim Traditional Council and companies operating in the town to give maximum support to programmes and projects and advised the people to register their families in the Asunafo Health Insurance Scheme.
Mr. George Yaw Boakye, the District Chief Executive described as timely the decision to grant Mim an urban status, saying the town, which has three big companies operating there and a growing population must be assisted to shoulder some of its problems.
Mim's has a population of 22,400 residents and this requires stringent environmental regulations to prevent communicable diseases. The Goaso Circuit Court Judge, Mr. Justice S.K.A. Asiedu, administered the oath of office to the council members.
Capt Effah-Dartey later cut the sod to commission a 12-seater aqua-privy place of convenience, estimated at 124 million cedis, for the town.
