The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has lined up a “massive durbar” at the Mandela Park in Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region to mark its Silver Jubilee.

The current leading opposition party was founded on June 10, 1992, ahead of the elections that marked the return to constitutional rule, later to be the Fourth Republic.

Ahead of the 25th anniversary, the party took stock in Elmina in the Central Region to “retool” ahead of the next elections in 2020. Saturday’s Durbar is expected to attract the rank and file of the party.

Among the speakers lined up are former presidents Jerry John Rawlings and John Dramani Mahama – who led the party to victories – National Chairman and Leader Kofi Portuphy, General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia and Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu In its 25 years of existence, the party has won four presidential elections and lost three, the recent in 2016.

They have been led by to victory by three personalities, viz John Jerry Rawlings, who is also the founder with a 100 per cent record in elections, late Professor John Evans Atta Mills, who lost twice before a 2nd round victory in 2008 and John Dramani Mahama, who won in 2012 but lost in 2016.
