Industrial Relations Officer for the Volta Regional Chapter of the Health Services Workers Union (HSWU), Madam Harriet Amponsah, has called on the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to halt illegal deductions.

She alleged that the SSNIT was deducting 41.9 per cent from pensioners’ salary illegally.

Madam Amponsah said SSNIT cited an “annuity factor” as a reason for the deduction which was not captured in the Pensions Act.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency on the sidelines of a Ho Municipal Council of Labour meeting, Madam Amponsah said some pensioners of the Health Service, who confronted SSNIT on the issue, had their data recomputed and reimbursed.

She appealed to the various labour unions to take up the issue and help resolve it before the year 2020, when a new pension scheme would be adopted.

A total of 16 executives were elected and sworn in to serve a four year term.
