Ghanaians to lead growth agenda - Ken Ofori Atta

The minister of finance, Mr Ken Ofori Atta has stated that government would give preference to Ghanaian businesses in government’s growth agenda.

“I don’t see why I have to wake up at 4 a.m., head for the Ministry, close at 11 p.m. and wake up one day and this country is in the hands of foreigners; that’s not going to happen,” he declared

Government, he indicated, would continue to work with Ghanaian entrepreneurs to achieve the expected growth.

Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, also revealed that 70% of local contracts awarded in the country would be given to Ghanaian businesses.

According to him, government will empower local industries “we are committing that for government of Ghana taxpayer funded contracts at least 70% of those contracts are to go to local companies.”

The Vice-President further announced that government was bringing together experts from Dubai and Singapore to discuss how the country's ports could be reformed to improve efficiency.

He said government will be organising 'Port Efficiency Conference' tomorrow to afford Ghanaian port officials the opportunity to learn from best practices.

"We want to see what some of the best in the world are doing that we are not doing and also how we can get a lot more automation and stop the human intervention," he said.

He stressed that growth in the country would be led by the private sector and Ghana was going to be the most business friendly country in Africa.
