Dr Edward Mahama and Mr Charles Kofi Wayo the two presidential aspirants of the People's National Convention (PNC) were on Friday "miraculously" saved in a motor accident on the Kumasi-Accra trunk road.

Narrating the incident to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, Dr Mahama said the two were returning from Kumasi, where they participated in a Political Think-Tank Forum organized by the Social Sciences Society of the Faculty of Social Science, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

He said between Konogo and Joaso, a truck moving towards Kumasi gave their driver a highlight blinding him momentary. As a result, the driver lost control of the Honda Civic saloon car, hit a heap of construction sand piled by the roadside, skidded off the road and landed into a valley.

Dr Mahama said the car fell sideways, almost on its roof, temporary imprisoning the two presidential hopefuls and the driver. He said they had to climb through the doors at the opposite end and then crawl from down the valley unto the main road.

Dr Mahama said they reported to the Joaso Police who immediately accompanied them to the spot and escorted them to Nkawkaw to get a vehicle to Accra.
The PNC Leader attributed their miraculous escape from death to "Divine Intervention" and expressed his thanks God for delivering them from the claws of death.
Mr Wayo for his part blamed the Government and the Contractors for failing to enforce international road construction regulations, which demanded the planting of danger signs along portions of roads under rehabilitation.
He urged the Ministry of Road and Transport, the Ghana Highways Authority and other allied agencies to enforce laws on road construction to reduce the spate of road accident in the country.
The two had since reported to their private doctors and had received treatment for slight bruises and body pains.
